Crop and Crop Weather Reports

The Crop Report  provides information on progress of seeding and crop establishment, crop development, any pest activity including weeds, insects and disease, harvest progress, crop yields and grades, fall field work progress, and status of winter cereal crop seeding and establishment. In addition, it provides information on haying progress and estimated yields, as well as pasture conditions from May to October.

The Crop Weather Report  is a summary of weather data from the Manitoba Ag Weather Program and Environment Canada. Weekly summaries of temperature (maximum, minimum, average) and total rainfall along with seasonal accumulations of degree days, corn heat units and rainfall (actuals and per cent of normal) are provided for about 130 locations in the five regions used in the Crop Report. This report is available throughout the crop growing season (May to October).

Crop Pest Update

The Manitoba Crop Pest Update  is published weekly from mid-May until late August. Current reports and observations of insects, plant pathogens and weeds of field crops are compiled weekly, and the report indicates which crop pests are of current concern and where in Manitoba highest levels are occurring. Scouting tips are provided as needed and results from pest monitoring programs are presented.

Fruit Crop Report

The Fruit Crop Report  provides information on all commercially grown fruit crops across Manitoba with a focus on production topics, harvest updates, and pest related issues including weeds, insects and diseases. The report begins late April/early May and continues biweekly throughout the growing season until late November.

Potato Report

The Potato Report  is emailed weekly to potato growers, consultants and agronomists starting late May or early June and continues through the growing season. The report provides information on seeding and harvest progress, on crop development and condition, and on pest related issues including weeds, insects and diseases. The report also includes weather information from weather stations situated throughout the potato growing areas of Manitoba. Weather data is used to calculate the late blight disease severity index, and to determine the potato crop water demand.

Vegetable Crop Report

The Vegetable Crop Report  provides information on commercially grown vegetable crops across Manitoba focusing on crop updates including planning, planting, field maintenance, pest issues, harvesting and marketing. In addition, it provides information on vegetable trials conducted in the field and high tunnel during the growing season.

Fusarium Head Blight Risk Maps

Fusarium Head Blight Risk  maps are produced, typically from mid-June to mid-July annually. A new forecasting tool is available for producers to view daily fusarium risk maps from May 15 to August 31 each year. In Manitoba, the forecast is based on data from >120 weather stations. When evaluating risk, it is very important to monitor the stage of the crop.

Infection can occur if the crop is at or near the flowering stage. It is also important to be aware that local conditions will vary based on weather and soil properties and that the risk of fusarium head blight may change rapidly.

A screenshot of the maps will be posted once a week from the beginning of winter wheat flowering until the end of the flowering period for spring wheat.
