Spend a day on the farm

This year’s Open Farm Day takes place on Sunday, September 15 at over 60 farm locations in Manitoba. When you visit a host farm, you can discover the world of farming:

• meet local farmers
• explore farm operations
• watch demonstrations
• learn more about farm products
• enjoy recreational activities
• ask questions about farm life

Manitoba's host farms are ready for your arrival. Get your family and friends together for this event and have fun!

Start planning your route

Not sure where you want to go or what you want to see?

Use the guide map to choose your route based on location or the type of farms you want to learn more about. Host farms are also identified in this interactive map to help plan your route.

Feel free to visit as many farms as you like. Consider staying overnight to experience a full day and enjoy rural Manitoba.  You can plan on one hour of stay per stop. Every farm should have something for you to do free of charge. Some farms may charge a fee for certain activities, ex: corn maze, pumpkin picking and some farms will have products available for purchase.

Preview the Open Farm Day Experience

Take a sneak peek at what's in store on September 15, with videos from participating host farms.

Look to buy Manitoba grown products along the way

Manitoba’s Local Produce Guide is a listing of Manitoba’s farmers’ markets, pre-picked stands and u-pick vegetable gardens. Stop at any of these locations to experience fresh from the farm. Call ahead to confirm business hours on September 15 and to find out more about produce selections for the season.

Manitoba’s first Open Farm Day took place in 2010 and was a great success.  More than 4,000 Manitobans went to 36 open farms to learn first-hand about how farming works in our province. In 2011, 44 host farms welcomed over 4,000 visitors. Last year, 51 farms hosted over 4,600 visitors.

There have been Open Farm Days in Canada for about 10 years, starting in the Maritimes and moving West to Manitoba. As their success grows, so does the public's interest and the number of farms hosting the events.

Open Farm Day visits increase the opportunity for farmers to market their products directly to Manitobans. In  addition, farmers can promote agricultural tourism experiences and an understanding of where food comes from.
