The wild boar is the ancestor of the domestic pig and is native to Europe, Asia and North Africa.
The wild boar was introduced into Manitoba as an agricultural diversification in the 1980’s. There are about 60 producers who collectively own 2,000 breeding animals. Products are available directly from producers.
It is used for meat and hunting.
Wild boar from Manitoba is exported live to the United States and the Pacific Rim and Europe have potential for meat products.
