Strawberry - Equipment

Equipment should be carefully selected for the strawberry enterprise. Consult other growers for advice on performance and general characteristics suited to the needs of the specific operation. Factors to consider include equipment flexibility, type of production and long term enterprise goals.

Tractors

Select a tractor, perhaps a small four-wheel drive unit, that is capable of powering a rototiller. Too large a unit will contribute to soil compaction and will be inefficient to maneuver.

• strawberry transplanter
• sprayer capable of delivering 100 gal./acre (455 L/ha) and at least 200 psi (1379 kPa) pressure
• rototiller
• straw spreader
• irrigation equipment
• irrigation pipe trailer
• frost alarm system
• fertilizer spreader
• soil subsoiler (optional)
