Manitoba Farmers with Disabilities
Farmers with Disabilities in Manitoba is a fairly new organization. It was originally started in 1983 by a few farmers. After six years the organization discontinued. In 1996, the idea was brought up again. A farmer was in need of support and needed information about how to deal with a missing limb. He thought of starting an organization to help and support people like him. After doing some research he realized that there used to be an organization to do just that, but it had been discontinued. fwd01.gif (5905 bytes)

The group met once a month during the winter of 1996 to support each other.  During the winter it also grew to about 40 people. They saw a need in Manitoba.

Now Farmers with Disabilities in Manitoba offers a variety of support and information groups. Members visit people in hospital who have had accidents involving the loss of limbs, and they offer the victim and the family support. They also visit schools, Ag shows, 4-H clubs, Church groups and Universities; to inform the public about how to prevent and deal with farm and other accidents. The organization also visits many different businesses; informing workers about safety in the workplace.
