About the Food Development Centre
Our Mandate:
The Food Development Centre (FDC) is a
Special Operating Agency of Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural
Initiatives (MAFRI). Its mandate is to assist the agri-food
industry in the development and commercialization of
conventional and functional foods and natural health products.
In the 2004/2005 year alone, FDC activities resulted in the creation of
12 new
jobs and 35 new food products. FDC also assisted in the creation
and expansion
of 20 food processing companies. Translated into economic worth for Manitoba,
these activities have resulted in a five-year impact of a $1.307 million increase in the
gross domestic product (GDP)
of Manitoba, and $121,297 in provincial taxes.
Our Vision for 2013:
FDC is recognized nationally and
internationally as a centre of excellence in developing and
commercializing new/innovative food products and natural
health products.
Our Mission Statement:
FDC provides the agri-food industry with the
facilities and the expertise to successfully develop and
commercialize food products, resulting in increased use of
Manitoba ingredients for food, functional food and natural
health products and positive economic impact for producers and
Manitoba communities.
Some of Our Strategic Objectives:
-
Maximize the use of FDC's infrastructure and unique
capabilities.
-
Strengthen FDC's relationships with partners that
complement the spectrum of product development and
commercialization.
-
Develop innovative process technologies and products with
the focus on functional foods and natural health products.
