FDC Serves Innovators

FDC serves Manitobans involved in adding value to or extracting value from agricultural commodities on a commercial scale and for research purposes. Innovation is the currency for economic growth. New businesses that are based on innovation translate into new jobs and increased economic wealth for the Province of Manitoba.

FDC supports sustainable economic and community development in the value-added agri-food and agricultural products industry by helping individuals and businesses discover and create viable products and processes. FDC is also part of the research and development infrastructure of the Province of Manitoba and co-operates with allied organizations to expand the home-grown knowledge base for value-added agricultural and agri-food products.

Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises

For small and medium-sized companies, FDC represents a cost-efficient opportunity to use sophisticated technology and information in their value-added agricultural business. These clients contact FDC for assistance in research and development for creating or diversifying their product base, for troubleshooting and process optimization, HACCP plan development and nutritional labelling.

New Businesses and Entrepreneurs

Job creation is a result of innovation and a building block for economic growth. FDC works with entrepreneurs, home-based businesses and start-up operations to research and develop product and process ideas for commercial-scale value-added agricultural products and processes.Putting it Together Image

Agricultural Producers

Agriculture is the cornerstone of Manitoba's economy, especially in rural communities. Farmers adding value to their commodities and producers interested in diversifying their market opportunities work with FDC to identify value-added product and high-value component extraction ideas.

Large Companies

Larger firms rely on FDC services to complement their own in-house capabilities. FDC provides research and development, troubleshooting, sensory evaluations, nutritional labelling and HACCP plan development to large companies.

Pilot Plant

Both large and small businesses benefit from having access to the FDC pilot plant for test market production of products. Test production in the pilot plant allows clients to reserve capital expenditure on expensive equipment until the results of a test market launch are known and are satisfactory. For larger companies, production problems associated with occupying large-scale processing facilities to produce small quantities are eliminated.
