Pilot Plant Services and Commercial Activities

Conducting a Market Test

The Food Development Centre pilot plant is a superbly equipped and federally registered facility where clients manufacture agriculturally-based products for research purposes, market tests and commercial distribution.

New Facility and Equipment

FDC received multi-level government approval for $13.6 million in funding for renovating and expanding the pilot plant facilities and for purchasing new technology. The result is a pilot plant nearly double in size that is furnished with sophisticated processing technology and registered to handle and process meat products, processed products, industrial hemp, organic foods and value-added dairy products.

GMPs and Food Safety

The FDC pilot plant operates according to good manufacturing practices (GMPs).

Product-specific HACCP plans have been designed and are implemented for each client and in-house research and development project. The pilot plant has been constructed according to CFIA-approved HACCP pre-requisite plans.

A HACCP team of pilot plant and process development staff, under the advice of the Regulatory Affairs/HACCP Co-ordinator, trains and educates other staff and clients about food safety, GMPs and HACCP for the pilot plant.
