Mapping the Process - "New Product Development"

Packaging

The process of packaging products is critical to the ultimate success of marketing efforts.

The three functions of packaging consist of:

  • to protect and contain the product,
  • to provide information about the product, and
  • to identify the product by distinguishing it from other similar producers.

Packaging Helps Sell The Product

Due to an ever increasing aging population, the agricultural entrepreneur should aim at making their packaging user-friendly.

  • Is the package easy to open?
  • Is it easy to handle?
  • Is the label easy to read?

As you choose packaging, pay attention to technical considerations of the production process. (i.e. What type of packaging would be suitable for mechanical packaging or filling?)
