Services for Food Entrepreneurs
If you have ideas for great new food products, Manitoba has the services and expertise to turn them into market winners.
The Food and Agri-Product Processing branch (FAPP) provides services to entrepreneurs, food processors and organizations to strengthen the competitive position of Manitoba’s agriculture and agri-food industry in the domestic and global marketplace. FAPP provides marketing and business management services and information, facilitates industry promotion through collaboration and alliances, and partners in building a diversified rural Manitoba.
FAPP staff provides business and market development consultation services specifically targeted to those businesses and individuals operating or planning to operate in Manitoba’s food processing sector. Delivery of programs and services are supported by training events, resource materials, outreach missions and other resources. The branch provides leadership to Manitoba’s organic sector at all levels of the value chain from primary production to processing.
Like any industry, people in the food industry have their own language. Getting a product listed at retail means communicating with the appropriate terms. Familiarize yourself with food industry terms with our Food Industry Glossary.
Successfully selling your product to grocery stores requires having an eye-catching one-page fact sheet about your product line. To help, Manitoba Agriculture has created a sell sheet guide that provides you with all the details and inside tips you can use to create your own sell sheet.
The Tradeshow Checklist is a resource that will assist you in getting ready to attend a trade show. Whether you are marketing at a local, national or international show, pre-planning is key. This list will give you suggestions on what items to book or bring to the tradeshow you are attending.
Many food entrepreneurs partner with contract manufacturers (or co-packers) to help manufacture their food product. Manitoba Agriculture has a co-packer list to help you start your search.
FAPP is the lead in delivering the Growing Forward 2 - Growing Value: Commercialization grant program.
Manitoba's leading service for food entrepreneurs is the internationally recognized Food Development Centre in Portage la Prairie. It's a one-stop shop for research and product development of food ingredients and retail items.
