Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives

Food Safety Program, for Processor and Distributors
 

The Food Safety Program, for Processors and Distributors is a component of the Canadian Food Safety and Quality Program (CFSQP). It is funded under Growing Forward (GF), the new Agricultural Policy Framework program, a federal-provincial-territorial initiative that aims to position Canada as a world leader in food safety, innovation and environmentally responsible, agricultural production.

The Food Safety Program was developed to increase the number of non-federally registered, food processing plants developing and implementing Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) and/or ISO 22000 food safety and traceability systems (fish and shellfish processing plants are excluded).

The Food Safety Program was developed to improve the safety and traceability knowledge and awareness of the food processing, transportation, and warehousing sector and associated stakeholders.

Funds are available for the food safety program to food processing applicants for:
  • MAFRI recognized Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) program of up to $15,000
  • MAFRI recognized Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) program of up to $20,000 with additional funding of $3,000 for each additional HACCP plan up to a maximum of three additional HACCP plans
  • ISO 22000, of up to $20,000

Funds are available for the traceability program and applications are subject to MAFRI approval:

  • slaughter houses could be eligible for funding of up to $10,000
  • all other food processors could be eligible to a maximum of $4,000

Funding can be used for identification, registry, software, training and other expenses traceability system requirements. For more details:

Manitoba HACCP Advantage

 

The goal of the Manitoba HACCP Advantage program is to identify hazards and implement measures to prevent, eliminate or reduce hazards.
 

ISO 22000

 

ISO 22000 is an internationally recognized management system, specific to food safety.
