Growing Actions increasing competitiveness and innovation

The Growing Actions program provides funding to agricultural organizations for projects that increase competitiveness and innovation in Manitoba's agricultural industry.

Funding can go to developing strategic marketing initiatives, research to enter new markets or developing tools to expand the sector.

Some of the organizations supported through Growing Forward 2's Growing Actions program include:

  • Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba - Established in Brandon in 1882, the organization drives economic growth and tourism through three annual fairs. The Royal Manitoba Winter Fair, for example, has a total economic impact of $6.7 million per year.
  • Flax Council of Canada - The organization promotes Canadian flax and flax products for nutritional and industrial uses. In 2013, flax represented $33 million in farm cash receipts and $53 million in export revenue. Manitoba farmers produced 54,400 tonnes of flax in 2013, making it Manitoba's seventh largest crop.
  • Soy 20/20 - The organization connects government, academic and industry partners to stimulate and seize new global bioscience opportunities for Canadian soybeans. In 2013 soybeans represented $357 million in farm cash receipts in Manitoba and $605 million in export revenue.
  • Manitoba Beef Producers - The organization represents 8,000 producers across the province through communication, advocacy, research and education to improve prosperity and ensure a sustainable future for the beef industry. In 2013, cattle production in Manitoba was responsible for $487,630 million in farm cash receipts and exports of cattle brought $200 million in revenue to Manitoba.
