The Eastern Manitoba Holstein Club (EMHC) has about 200 members and services producers throughout the Eastern Region which is that area east of the Red River.
A high concentration of service and support industries in the Eastern Region benefits EMHC members by providing them with choice and ready access to a wide variety of support and technical services.
One of the Clubs highlights during the year is the Annual Spring Show and Sale which traditionally is held the third week of April in La Broquerie. The 2000 Spring Show featured 150 head of the best cows and heifers from Manitoba and Saskatchewan. The Show week also hosts an open house, school tours, an awards banquet and a Select Sale. The 2000 Select Sale was a big success with 24 head consigned from across Manitoba and an average sale price of $2,218.
Another highlight of EMHC activities is the Annual Dairy Seminar held at Friedensfeld Hall in January near Steinbach. This two-day seminar provides members with an excellent opportunity to update themselves on the latest in dairy technologies and management practices.
Other EMHC extension and social activities include classification clinics, judging clinics, farm tours, kitchen table meetings, a production awards gathering, a curling bonspiel, a golf tournament and a family picnic.
