Herd:

I have mostly purebred Alpine, with very few older Alpine/Nubian cross does. I generally breed around 24 females, I do not breed any yearlings. I breed so that does kid for the first time as 2 year olds.

Herd/Farm Accomplishments:

I have not and do not plan to compete in any shows with any of my animals, but I have sold many excellent animals for dairy across Canada.

Farm/Facility:

We do not have a very large farm, it comprises of only 25.9 acres. Manny and our son lease some land and make a lot of hay. Therefore I have an ample supply of forage for my animals. The barn is 24 x 52 ft. with an 10 x 24 ft. addition. The barn is fully insulated for winter kidding. They also have a roomy 24 x 40 ft. shelter for summer housing. My goats have ample room it both the summer and winter barns.

Management:

The does when kidding can be kept in the barn if the weather is bad, the barn is large enough that during kidding a pair of does can each have a 8 x8 ft. for the two of them and their kids. All the stalls have keyhole feeders, and in the summer barn there is two large keyhole feeders. I make sure that at all times the animals have clean water and access to mineral licks.

Herd Health:

I spend a great deal of time with my goats and notice any animals that are not quite feeling up to par. They are treated with mostly holistic and natural remedies if any problems do arise, but mostly they are a very healthy group.

Marketing:

I market dairy and breeding stock, with of course the older cull does and male kids selling into the meat market at various times of the year.
