Agriculture and food related industries are growing
in world importance and with a shortage of graduates in
these professions, now is a great time for young people
to consider a career in agriculture. The new Centennial
Entrance Scholarship is now available to help provide
financial support needed to pursue a future in
agriculture.
Alumni, faculty, agricultural industry and friends of
the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences and the
Province of Manitoba through the department of
Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives have each
contributed $150,000 for an endowed scholarship in honor
of the 100th anniversary of the faculty that was
originally established in 1906 as the Manitoba
Agricultural College. In 2008, the first Agricultural
and Food Science Centennial Entrance Scholarship is
being awarded to a Manitoba high school student who
plans to enter the faculty of Agricultural and Food
Sciences at the University of Manitoba.
The first Agricultural and Food Science Centennial
Entrance Scholarship has been awarded to Mackenzie Ross
from Minnedosa who will be entering the University of
Manitoba this fall. Mac has demonstrated excellence in
both academics and athletics and is a very deserving
winner. Mac is involved with the Credit Union Youth
Board, different Rotary events and has volunteered with
Ag in the Classroom and other community events. Mac will
forever have the honor of being the first Agricultural
and Food Science
Centennial Entrance Scholarship winner.
