HISTORY

In 1986 the Manitoba Association of Agricultural Societies (M.A.A.S.) was established to officially represent the 62 active Agricultural Societies in the province.  The Agricultural Societies were originally organized under The Agricultural Societies Act and an Advisory Board was established to represent the membership.

By 1985 it became apparent a more independent Board would more effectively represent the Agricultural Societies interests and concerns in forming partnerships and developing programs. The Advisory Board act on behalf of M.A.A.S. as well as fulfill their original mandate under the requirements of the Act.  The proposal was brought forward to the membership and in November 1986 they voted to register their new association now known as the Manitoba Association of Agricultural Societies.

The M.A.A.S. Board and Advisory Board henceforth became one and is elected by the Agricultural Societies in the province.  The Board is comprised of 12 elected directors and an administrator who is contracted to look after special projects. In addition, the Superintendent of Agricultural Societies attends all board functions and sits as an ex-officio on the Board.
