
PURPOSE OF PROGRAM/SERVICE
To encourage students after graduation to conduct rural
veterinary practice in Manitoba.
WHO QUALIFIES
Manitoba veterinary medical students attending veterinary
college outside of Manitoba.
AVAILABLE BENEFITS/ASSISTANCE
The Veterinary Science Scholarship is available to students who
plan to return to rural veterinary practice in Manitoba after
graduation. The amount is variable depending on number of
applicants. The Scholarship is "written off" over a five-year period
in rural practice.
The Large Animal Veterinary Retention Program is a new program that
started in 2005/2006. The program offers ten grants of $5000 each to
students in their third and fourth years of study in return for a
year of service as a large animal veterinarian in rural Manitoba for
each year they receive the grant. Students are eligible to receive a
maximum of two $5000 grants over two years under the program.
