Business Development & Management

PURPOSE OF PROGRAM/SERVICE

To build and strengthen individual business management practices directed at maximizing business net income through effective production, marketing, human resources and financial management activity.

Those involved in agriculture, agri-business and rural business.

  • Manitoba agricultural and commodity organizations
  • Rural economic development and community leaders

AVAILABLE BENEFITS/ASSISTANCE

Publications and personal assistance are offered in the following areas:

  • Production Economics -Guidelines for estimating the cost of production for various agricultural enterprises. These "cost of production" budgets can be used to maximize profit and analyze alternatives.
     
  • Business Plan and Development Assistance
     
  • Marketing Extension - Increasing knowledge in marketing agricultural commodities and food products, product development, new market opportunities and market intelligence.
     
  • Estate Planning, Farm Transfer and Financial Analysis - Inter-generational farm and business transfer, taxation issues, business organization issues (agreements and contracts), issues facing young farmers, financial analysis of farm business and strategic planning.
     
  • Agricultural Adaptation - Assisting farmers to build the technical and human resource management skills as well as assistance to farmer and farm employees on agricultural employment issues.
     
  • Management Technology - Application of computer technology to farm management, including marketing of agricultural commodities and food products.

The Business Management program is delivered to clients through publications, seminars, training courses, software, WWW Information and direct on-farm contact by Business Development Specialists.
