About the Agricultural Policy Framework

Under the Agricultural Policy Framework, the Government of Canada and the Province of Manitoba have agreed to strengthen the agriculture and agri-food sector by developing policy that:

  • fosters confidence in food safety and food quality systems and the environment

  • accelerates advances in science and technology; and

  • provides farmers with the risk management and renewal tools that they need tin order to be more profitable.

As a result, all ARDI projects must fall into at least one of the four broad categories identified in the Canada-Manitoba Implementation Agreement.

Food Safety and Food Quality

The Governments of Canada and Manitoba are committed to ensuring that food produced in Canada continues to be among the safest and highest-quality in the world.

Science and Innovation

Science and innovation is the cornerstone of efforts to make the agriculture and agri-food sector the world leader in food safety, innovation and environmentally responsible production and to support its future success and prosperity.

Environment

Farmers have shown they are admirable stewards of environmental resources. Working together under the Agricultural Policy Framework, governments and industry are looking to accelerate efforts to reduce agricultural risks and provide benefits to Canada’s water resources, soil, air and bio-diversity.

Renewal

As agriculture is knowledge intensive, producers are increasingly engaging in continuous learning to keep pace with change. This means enhancing management and marketing information but it also includes ARDI’s role in helping to better link scientific advances to the creation of new economic opportunities.
