What are the Agri-Environmental
Issues?
EFP programs across Canada have
been designed to address priority issues identified in the
Environment Chapter of the Agricultural Policy Framework (APF).
Priority issues include potential environmental effects of
agriculture on:
-
the quality and supply of water resources.
Priorities are: reducing nutrient, pathogen and pesticide releases
to the environment and improving water conservation;
-
the health and quality of soils.
Priorities are: improving soil organic matter and reducing soil
erosion caused by water, wind and tillage;
-
air and atmospheric quality.
Priorities are: reduction in particulate emissions, odours and
greenhouse gas emissions; and
-
biodiversity
and agricultural landscapes. Priorities are: improving habitat
availability, protecting species at risk and reducing economic damage
to agriculture from wildlife.
