The Agri-Environment Knowledge Centre delivers programming
that supports the development of Manitoba’s agri-food and rural
sectors while protecting agri-environmental resources. The
Agri-Environment Knowledge Centre has two main priorities. These
involve the establishment of the Knowledge Centre as the point
of contact in government for leadership and advice on
agri-environmental issues, represent Manitoba in national and
international discussions, and secondly to oversee Manitoba’s
environment programs.
The Agri-Environment staff uses their expertise to develop
programs and policies that are used in the development of
beneficial management practices, extension materials and
programs, departmental or government policies and regulations,
and the long-term environmental performance tracking for the
sector.
The Agri-Environment Knowledge Centre also houses the Manitoba Soil Survey Program. The objective of this program is to expedite the further mapping of soil in areas of particular sensitivity or proposed development to ensure the best possible decisions are made regarding land use and management in Manitoba.
