In the 1940’s and 50’s, it was common for farmers to log their wooded lands when they weren't tending crops or livestock. But with the onset of large-scale farming, the basic skills needed in logging and milling wood have virtually disappeared.
New technology is making it possible for woodlot owners to diversify farm income or even earn a living as an independent wood producer. Reliable, lightweight, inexpensive equipment like portable sawmills are allowing a revolution in lumber production.
The Manitoba
Agro Woodlot Program understands that the keys to success and
profitability of any new business are efficiency and safety.
That’s why the program started delivering skills training
workshops in 1996. Topics range from low impact logging and
chainsaw operation to milling lumber, kiln-drying and marketing.
If you’re considering a micro forestry business, please use our

up-coming workshops.
The Manitoba Agro Woodlot Program is funded by the Manitoba Climate
Change Action Plan.
