Education & Employment |
The growth and development of the provincial and regional economies will require the participation of Aboriginal Manitobans who are currently underrepresented in the workforce. A significant proportion of Manitoba residents are of Aboriginal descent and issues of education within the Aboriginal community have a bearing on local, regional and provincial economic growth.
Improved social and economic outcomes for northern populations and their participation in development activities and the northern economy will depend on education and training as the bridge to employment and inclusion in the mainstream economy.
Manitoba Aboriginal and Northern Affairs supports and facilitates the development of policies and initiatives that promote improved education and employment outcomes for northern and Aboriginal communities including:
- Partners for Careers program, which places Aboriginal graduates in careers
- Aboriginal Employment Partnership Agreements
- Aboriginal component of the Winnipeg Partnership Agreement
- Support for the Aboriginal Management Development Program and the Aboriginal Public Administration Program
- Collaboration with Family Services on the Building Independence program
