Our Mandate

Under The Archives and Recordkeeping Act, the Archives of Manitoba provides records management and archival programs and services to the government of Manitoba, the Courts and the Legislature.

It also provides records management advice and archival services to municipalities and local public authorities.

Our Mission

Access Services of the Government Records Office facilitates access to records of the Manitoba government, municipalities and school divisions which have been transferred to the Archives of Manitoba.

What we do

• Make known to the public the records of the Manitoba government, municipalities and school divisions that are in the Archives of Manitoba.
• Assist members of the public who wish to use these records by providing advice on possible sources, guidance on doing research, and information about any access restrictions.
• Assist employees of the Manitoba government, municipalities and school divisions who need to access records of their organizations in the Archives.
• Manage the custodial care for archival records to ensure that they continue to be available for research purposes.
