Fire Insurance Plans

Title: Fire Insurance Plans

    Dates: ca. 1880-1970
    Content: Fire insurance plans were produced or commissioned by fire underwriting firms for subscribing fire insurance companies and their agents to assist in assessing fire risk. Fire insurance plans contain information about buildings, including structure size and shape, construction materials and detailing, number of floors and lot size. Plans may include such information as street widths, street numbers, property lines and fire protection facilities. The Archives of Manitoba has several series of fire insurance plans;   McPhillips' Brothers, 1880; Charles E. Goad Co., 1895-1905, microfilm only; Western Canada Fire Underwriters' Association (WCFUA), 1910 and 1970.

    Access Conditions: Permission to reproduce the Charles E. Goad and WCFUA plans must be obtained from the Insurers' Advisory Organization Inc. Permission to reproduce McPhillips' Brothers plans must be obtained from the Library and Archives Canada.
