Research Request

Please read the following information before submitting a research request to the Archives of Manitoba.

Make sure that you go through this guide thoroughly.  It may contain answers to your questions or point to resources held by another institution, thus saving you time in waiting for a response from us.

We need a way of contacting you.  Since return e-mail transmissions sometimes fail and not all the information is available online, complete postal information is essential (name, street address or post office box, postal code or zip code). We will not begin processing your request until we have this information.

For birth, marriage and death records contact: Vital Statistics Agency -  254 Portage Avenue, R3C 0B6, Tel: (204) 945-3701, e-mail: vitalstats@cca.gov.mb.ca.

Staff can do only limited preliminary research for persons unable to visit the archives in person.

Due to the large volume of reference inquiries received,  response time is approximately four to six weeks.  Your patience is appreciated.

If you are looking for general information of an introductory nature on broad topics such as the fur trade and First Nations people, we suggest you contact your local Library etc.

It is important to provide as much information as you can and be very specific about the information you require to enable our staff  to assist you and suggest appropriate resources, (ie: approximate dates of birth, death, locations where your relative worked or lived).

Personal information collected on our submit form is protected by Manitoba's Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA)and will be used only to respond to you. If you have any questions about the use or protection of this personal information, please contact the Archives of Manitoba by email or telephone 1-204-945-0513 or 1-800-617-3588.
