District Personnel Records
There is an abundance of information in the District Personnel Records. These are
readily accessed once the place of employment is known. Northern Canada was divided into
districts to facilitate the administration of the Hudson's Bay Company Fur Trade
Department. District names were linked to geographical location so they could be easily
identified with the help of a map. Associated with each District was the number of the
Outfit. The Outfit was the fiscal year of the fur trade. In celebration of its 250th
anniversary in 1920, the HBC began to number outfits from its founding in 1670. These
records are classified by district.
