Keystone Archives Descriptive Database:
What's Available?

Not all of our holdings are represented in the database. The database is being populated continually and the website will be updated regularly so that new descriptions are accessible. If you do not find the records that you are looking for, please contact the Archives of Manitoba.

• Government records
• Hudson’s Bay Company records

A growing number of private records - records of people, families and organizations representative of the history of Manitoba or related to the Hudson's Bay Company - have been entered into the database. Researchers may need to consult Private Records or the HBCA for more information.

Government records descriptions available in the database include the records of:

• Legislative Assembly
• Executive Council
• Department of Culture, Heritage, Tourism and Sport
• Department of Agriculture, Rural Initiatives and Food
• Department of Education, Citizenship and Youth
• Department of Conservation including early land records
• Department of Justice(NEW)
• Manitoba Liquor Control Commission
• Ministerial Portfolios including the Minister Responsible for Senior Citizens and the Minister Responsible for Sport
• Manitoba Courts
• Municipalities
• Agencies that relate to the arts and multicultural sectors including Manitoba Arts Council, Centre culturel franco-manitobain, Manitoba Film and Sound Recording Development Corporation, Manitoba Horse Racing Commission, Venture Manitoba Tours Ltd., Multiculturalism Secretariat

Many but not all listings have been entered for most of these descriptions. Also, while some photograph holdings have been entered, most special media (not textual) records have not been entered in the listings database. Researchers should contact the Government Records Office for more information.

Hudson’s Bay Company descriptions available in the database include records of:

• Governor and Committee
• Governor and Council of Rupert’s Land
• Commissioner’s Office
• Canadian Committee
• Fur Trade Department
• Northern Stores Department
• Wholesale Department (NEW)
• Montreal Department, Southern Department, Northern Department, Oregon Department and Western Department  
• all Hudson’s Bay Company posts and districts (NEW)
• records of related or subsidiary companies including: North West Company, Zellers Ltd., Rupert’s Land Trading Company, Hudson’s Bay Company Incorporated, Puget Sound Agricultural Company, Revillon Frères Trading Company (NEW)
• Sections A, B, C, D, H, RG2, RG3 and RG7
• over 100 series acquired from the HBC in 2007 have been processed and entered into Keystone; these are included in the above categories (NEW)
