The Winnipeg Auditorium was built in 1931-32 to provide a much needed cultural gathering place for the city and create employment for its citizens. In 1970 it was purchased by the Province and underwent extensive renovations, converting the main auditorium to four floors of vault space and the exhibition galleries to bright, spacious reference rooms. Today the building houses the Legislative Library of Manitoba and the Archives of Manitoba, including the Hudson’s Bay Company Archives.
