Visual Arts

From artists’ studios in rural and northern Manitoba to galleries in Winnipeg, lovers of painting, sculpture and other visual arts are drawn to the work of our artists.

Museums and galleries in Manitoba include the Winnipeg Art Gallery, home to the world’s largest Inuit art collection, and Le Centre culturel franco-manitobain, Manitoba’s French Cultural Centre, retaining an impressive collection of Franco-Manitoban art. Not-for-profit art galleries, such as Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art, focus on cutting-edge new work, while organizations such as the Manitoba Printmakers Association and La Maison des artists visuels francophone offer training and mentorship opportunities to young and emerging visual artists. Numerous specialized and private galleries showcase the widest variety of visual arts, such as the Graffiti Gallery, and others, such as the Wah Sa Gallery , and artist-run centres, like the Urban Shaman Gallery, display Manitoba and Canada’s finest Aboriginal art in its traditional and contemporary forms. The Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba highlights, reflects and reveals through the visual arts the many influences, histories and cultures that comprise Brandon and southwestern Manitoba.

You can find out a lot about Manitoba artists from Manitoba’s public libraries.
