Trader's Bank Building
389-192 Eveline Street,
Selkirk

Trader's Bank Building

Designation Date: October 13, 1989
Designation Authority: The Town of Selkirk
Present Owner: privately owned

The Trader's Bank was incorporated by an Act of Parliament in 1885 and began moving operations west by the turn of the century. Its Selkirk operations were initiated with the construction from 1906 to 1907 of this building. The tenure of the Trader's Bank here was short-lived, however, and the Dominion Bank moved in in 1909. Upper floors of the building have been used for a variety of functions, especially offices. The truncated corner of the building, its main defining feature, was an excellent way to draw customers in from the street. The building is a good example of the type; three storeys, constructed of brick and stone. The Garson Quarry did the foundation work while J.M. Beattie was in charge of the rest of the building.
