My Home is Manitoba

A video about cultural diversity in our province

My Home is Manitoba, produced by the Multiculturalism Secretariat and the Immigration Division, is a diversity awareness film for newcomers. The hour-long video showcases our province's cultural diversity and addresses stereotypes newcomers sometimes face.

We invite you to watch the video online. The video is in four parts. If you want to skip to a particular part click the small screen images that display along the bottom of the video window after you click Play. To watch the video in full screen click the arrows button.

Plans are underway to distribute the video in DVD format with support and discussion materials. Watch this space for more information.

SUMMARY: In this video Manitobans of all cultural backgrounds tell their personal experiences in a frank discussion about stereotypes and the benefits of diversity.

This is a City of Winnipeg publication which profiles 29 communities of recent immigrant groups; a tremendous resource to learn more about the rich mosaic which comprises Winnipeg.

Ethnicity Series – Volume 1: Foreign-born Population (pdf 6.8 MB)

This publication is part one of a three volume series that provides a demographic profile of the ethnocultural composition in Manitoba by regions in the province and neighbourhoods in the city of Winnipeg.  This volume presents the population by country of birth, focused on the foreign-born population and the recent regional distribution across Manitoba.

Ethnicity Series – Volume 2: Population by Mother Tongue (pdf 7 MB)

This publication is part two of the three volume series, which presents Manitoba’s population by mother tongues regardless of immigrant status and is focused on the non-official foreign languages in the regions across the province.

Community Events Calendar

Our ethnocultural community organizes many events throughout the year that showcase and celebrate our many different cultures. We encourage you to participate in these events, which not only provide Manitobans with an opportunity to learn about each other, but also help build cross-cultural connections and understanding.

June 4-12, 2011 – Philippine Heritage Week

Philippine Heritage Week is dedicated to celebrating the heritage, traditions and accomplishments of the Filipino community in Manitoba and Canada. Every year, typically during the second week of June, events are planned throughout the week to honour the many contributions Filipinos have made to our province.

The Philippine Heritage Council of Manitoba, which is comprised of representatives from over 35 member organizations and individuals within the Filipino community in Manitoba, works actively to commemorate and celebrate Philippines independence (June 12, 1898) and organizes week-long activities throughout Philippine Heritage Week.

June 25, 2011 – Canadian Multiculturalism Day Event

In November 2002, the Government of Canada designated June 27th as Canadian Multiculturalism Day, which celebrates our diversity; re-affirms our commitment to equality and mutual respect; and recognizes the many contributions made by various ethnocultural groups and communities to Canadian society. The Canadian Multiculturalism Day Factsheet pdf provides information about the origins of this unique day.

In recognition of Canadian Multiculturalism Day, the Manitoba Association for Rights and Liberties has planned a day of fun and free events on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at The Forks. Find out more about these events pdf and come celebrate this special day!
