Welcoming Communities Manitoba (WCM) promotes the strengthened participation of new immigrants in the mainstream community, and increases awareness of multiculturalism and the benefits of diversity. More importantly it aims to create a more inclusive and welcoming community. WCM receives its funding from Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC). This initiative began as part of the Government of Canada’s Action Plan Against Racism and continues under CIC’s Community Connections Stream of the Department’s modernized Settlement program.
Organizations, including non-profit, settlement and Adult EAL service providers, educational institutions, business, industry and labour, municipal governments or government regulated and funded bodies, with projects that support this initiative may apply for funding.
Organizations must submit an Application for Funding by the annual May 30th deadline in order to be considered. All interested organizations are required to discuss their project ideas with the Multiculturalism Secretariat prior to the application deadline.
All activities of the project must meet at least one of the following objectives of WCM:
Funding is provided as a contribution towards total costs of a specific activity or service. Allowable costs include salaries and wages, benefits and overhead costs. All eligible costs must be incurred between July 1st and March 31st. WCM does not provide multi-year funding.
The amount of funding support is based on the availability of funds, the needs of the applicant, the applicant’s ability to make effective use of the funds, the amount of community involvement and other sources of funding. Funding is also based on the applicant’s demonstrated ability to meet priority area(s) identified for the fiscal year. Approval may be given at any amount lower than requested or for only a specific part of the request. All allocations are given on a one-time basis with no guarantee of similar funding in the future.
