Boards, Commissions and Agencies

Boards, commissions or agencies at arm’s length from government are administered by appointed boards of directors, or in some cases, a combination of appointed and elected members. Appointments of directors may be made by the Lieutenant Governor through Order-in-Council, or by the Minister responsible. The number of appointments and their terms vary. Members may continue beyond their terms until successors are appointed.

Responds to the cultural needs of Manitoba’s French language community by providing cultural programs, services to artists and arts organizations, and by maintaining a facility for cultural and social activities of the Francophone community. (Members)

Heritage Grants Advisory Council
Makes recommendations on grants to be awarded under the Heritage Grants Program for projects which identify, protect and interpret the Province’s heritage. (Members)

Manitoba Arts Council
Promotes the study, enjoyment, production and performance of works of arts through grants, scholarships or loans. (Members)

Manitoba Centennial Centre Corporation
Maintains and enhances the properties and facilities available to organizations and individuals involved in the visual and performing arts. (Members)

Manitoba Ethnocultural Advisory and Advocacy Council (MEAAC)
The Manitoba Ethnocultural Advisory and Advocacy Council provides information, advice and recommendations to the minister on behalf of the multicultural community on ethnocultural matters. (Members)

Manitoba Film and Sound Recording Development Corp.
Fosters the growth of the film and sound recording industries in Manitoba and establishes programs designed to provide financial and other assistance to these industries. (Members)

Manitoba Film Classification Board
Supplies information about films and videos that will assist the public in making informed viewing choices. (Members)

Manitoba Heritage Council     
Advises the Minister on matters relating to The Heritage Resources Act. (Members)

Travel Manitoba
Fosters development growth and diversity of the tourism industry in Manitoba. (Members)

Venture Manitoba Tours
Oversees the operations of the Falcon Lake Golf Course.  (Members)
