The Manitoba Round Table for Sustainable Development has announced that applications are now being accepted for the 2002-03 Sustainable Development Scholarship to assist post-secondary students.

The award is open to students at an approved Manitoba post-secondary institution. It consists of a single, non-renewable award of $5,000 to cover the cost of tuition, books, fees and other education expenses.

The scholarship is available to students who:

• are currently enrolled in a program at an approved Manitoba post-secondary institution who expect to continue enrolment the following year;
• have achieved a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0;
• are Canadian citizens or permanent residents (landed immigrants);
• meet provincial student financial assistance Manitoba residency requirements; and
• maintain a minimum requirement of 60 per cent of the course load for the entire academic year in an approved program.

The recipient of the scholarship award will also receive recognition as the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) Scholar of the Year, entitling him or her to special privileges at the institute.

This scholarship is not available to employees of the Manitoba government or members of their immediate families. An independent evaluation committee will review applications and select a recipient. Deadline for applications is April 19, 2002.
