NOMINATIONS INVITED FOR 2002 ATTORNEY GENERAL SAFER COMMUNITIES AWARDS

Nominations are now being accepted for this year’s Manitoba Attorney General Safer Communities Awards recognizing individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to crime prevention in the province.

"Through their dedication and commitment, Manitobans have taken the initiative in making our neighbourhoods safer," said Attorney General Gord Mackintosh. "Their work makes our communities stronger and these awards show the deep appreciation we feel for their efforts."

The categories are: individual under 18 years, individual over 18 years, group or organization, community justice group and citizens on patrol group. Categories may have both a rural and an urban recipient. More than one award may be given out in any category.

Manitobans who have actively put their energy, time, talent, resources or support into crime prevention activities can qualify for the awards. The value of the service, type of activity, number of people involved and impact of the activity in achieving community awareness and preventing crime will be assessed in the award process.

Nomination forms can be obtained by calling the Awards Steering Committee of Manitoba Justice at 945-4345 or toll free at 1-800-282-8069 (ext. 4345). Completed forms must be sent to Manitoba Attorney General Safer Communities Awards, Manitoba Justice, 202-379 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0T9.

Nominations must be received by Nov. 1. The awards will be held at the Canad Inns Garden City at 2100 McPhillips St. in Winnipeg on Nov. 27.
