Separate pieces of legislation were introduced in the legislature this week that would make administrative amendments to three pieces of legislation.
Bill 34 – The University of Winnipeg Amendment Act would clarify internal student disciplinary powers between the senate and the board of regents. This amendment, requested by the University of Winnipeg, would ensure student disciplinary matters of an academic nature will be addressed by the body best suited to resolve the matter. It would also make the internal roles consistent with Manitoba’s other universities.
Bill 44 – The Colleges Act Amendment Act would mirror changes made to the University of Manitoba Act in the late 1990s and is designed to allow colleges to develop by-laws that regulate parking. This amendment was requested by Red River College.
Bill 43 – The Personal Health Information Amendment Act recognizes the spiritual aspects of health and acknowledges the role pastoral care can play in the health and care of some patients.
To date, 43 government bills have been introduced in the current legislative session.
