Health Minister Dave Chomiak today announced a $1.5 million tender to provide safety and security upgrades to Ste. Anne Hospital in the South Eastman Regional Health Authority has been awarded.
Bockstael Construction of Winnipeg was awarded the tender and will begin work on the project immediately.
"This investment is just one example of our commitment to invest in rural health care and provide Manitobans outside Winnipeg with access to safe and secure health care services," said Chomiak. "By improving accessibility and upgrading the mechanical and electrical systems, this facility will continue to provide area residents with health care for years to come."
Some of the improvements that will be made to the facility include:
the relocation of the nursing station to provide a better view of the emergency area, observation beds and waiting areas;
upgrades to the mechanical and electrical systems, including a new nurse call and security system;
replacement of cracked flooring;
provision of one fully accessible bathing room;
a washroom with shower for the single birthing room; and
widening of washroom doors and other measures to increase accessibility in two-bed patient rooms.
"The funding for the renovations and upgrades at Ste. Anne Hospital will result in an improved environment for our patients and our health care staff," said Reg Toews, chief executive officer of South Eastman Health/Santé Sud-Est Inc. "We are pleased that Manitoba Health is supporting this project to ensure that we can continue to provide efficient and effective care to the residents of South Eastman. Ste. Anne Hospital just celebrated 50 years of health care services to this region and such improvements will allow us to continue to provide quality care for years to come."
Ste. Anne Hospital is a 21-bed acute care facility primarily serving a francophone population in southeastern Manitoba. The project is scheduled to be completed by late 2004.
