NEW PROVINCIAL COURT CIRCUIT POINT ADDED IN CAMPERVILLE

CAMPERVILLE—This community has been added as a circuit point for sittings of the provincial court, providing better service to residents of the Duck Bay and Pine Creek First Nation communities north of Dauphin, Attorney General Gord Mackintosh and provincial court Chief Judge Raymond Wyant announced here today.

"By reducing the distance people have to travel to go to court, it makes it easier for them to attend and live up to their legal obligations," said Mackintosh. "It has the added benefit of helping citizens feel connected to the court process and can help communities play a stronger role in the justice system."

"The provincial court has worked co-operatively with the communities of Camperville, Duck Bay and Pine Creek to establish this circuit court sitting, thereby making appearances before the court more meaningful and relevant to the people from those communities," said Wyant.

The Camperville circuit court is the second established this week and the fourth over the past two years. Sandy Bay circuit court was officially opened Tuesday with courts added last year at Sioux Valley Dakota Nation and St. Pierre-Jolys.

Camperville is approximately 100 kilometres north of Dauphin, where matters originating in Duck Bay and Pine Creek have been heard in the past.

Two sittings will be held in Camperville’s community centre each month.
