PROVINCE LAUNCHES INNOVATIVE, ONLINE BUSINESS SERVICE TO BETTER SERVE MANITOBA'S MORE THAN 40,000 BUSINESSES

Businesses now have improved access to online services and their tax accounts with the launch of a new website called TAXcess, Finance Minister Greg Selinger announced today.

“I am thrilled to introduce our new TAXcess online service which was requested by business owners. It provides businesses with leading-edge technology that is convenient and will save them time,” said Selinger. “We’re confident after successful pilot testing that a secure, functional new tool for Manitoba businesses has been created. TAXcess is an example of how Manitoba means business.”

Using the new TAXcess service, businesses can securely and conveniently:
·         register for payroll tax or retail sales tax;
·         apply for motive fuel tax, gasoline tax or tobacco tax licences;
·         file retail sales tax and payroll tax returns;
·         pay retail sales, payroll, corporation capital, gasoline and motive fuel taxes through pre-authorized payment;
·         update business and contact information; and
·         review their account details including the status of their accounts.

The new TAXcess site is part of Manitoba’s strategy to provide the business community with single- window service delivery.

“We’re pleased that Manitoba has responded positively to our industry’s request to automate the reporting and payment of retail sales tax and payroll tax with TAXcess,” said Ron Hambley, executive vice-president of the Winnipeg Construction Association. “The convenience for our members of being able to submit returns and payments online at any time means that TAXcess will be a real time saver for all businesses.”

As part of a pilot project over the summer, the newly-developed online service was tested by about 30 Manitoba small and medium-sized businesses and their feedback was used to fine-tune the new system, before its full launch.

“This new service is very convenient for us and it also helps our cash flow as we can pre-arrange payment rather than having to write a cheque and pay in advance to ensure it is received on time,” said John Schubert, owner of McCaine Electric.

Businesses are able to sign up for TAXcess at http://www.gov.mb.ca/taxcess and can obtain more details on the new online business service by calling 204-945-5603 or toll-free in Manitoba
