The latest Statistics Canada figures that show Manitoba’s economy is leading the nation on many fronts, Competitiveness, Training and Trade Minister Andrew Swan said today.

“Manitoba’s economy is seeing impressive growth and firing on all cylinders,” said Swan. “We are leading the nation on many important indicators such as private job growth, private capital investment and construction work.”

Recent Statistics Canada figures for Manitoba show that:
·         17,200 private sector jobs were created in the last 12 months, the highest rate in the country;
·         private capital investment is up 22.4 per cent, the highest in the country, compared to
3.75 per cent nationally; and
·         construction work is up 22.2 per cent, also the highest in the country, compared to five per cent nationally.

Total job growth and full-time job growth were the second highest in the country over the last
12 months while Manitoba's unemployment rate decreased to 3.8 per cent, the second lowest rate in the country.

“Manitoba’s financial, insurance, retail estate and construction sectors are all doing very well while Manitoba’s manufacturing sector continues to show resiliency,” said Swan. “We are pleased by the latest figures and expect continued growth in the economy and in our population for the remainder of the year.”
