ST. LAURENT COMMUNITY RECREATION CENTRE BENEFITS FROM PROVINCIAL FUNDING: ASHTON
The St. Laurent Community Recreation Centre will receive $240,000 for upgrades, Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Steve Ashton announced today.
“Arenas are important facilities in Manitoba’s rural communities, providing sites for healthy recreational activities for people of all ages and a variety of social functions that hold communities together,” said Ashton. “The completion of this project is an excellent example of the benefits that can result from community and government partnerships.”
Infrastructure improvements in this project include the installation of artificial ice-making facilities, improvements in air conditioning at the adjacent community hall and installation of a geothermal ground loop to improve energy efficiency.
The minister noted that a portion of the funding was provided under Phase 2 of the Rural/Northern Municipal Recreation Fund component of the Building Manitoba Fund.
Through the Building Manitoba Fund, municipalities receive a share of provincial income and fuel taxes to support their infrastructure and service-delivery needs. In 2009, municipalities will see a total of $154.1 million through this fund.
