The program is designed to encourage municipal corporations and school divisions to form partnerships aimed at providing a wide range of community recreation opportunities through qualified recreation leadership.
Participation in this program is ongoing and is based on the submission of a detailed proposal, prepared by the cooperating municipal authorities.
Rural Municipalities (RM’s), local government districts (LGDs), towns and villages qualifying for funding. Within the boundaries of eligible municipal authorities, the participation of existing school divisions/districts is required. Cities with a population of 10,000 or more and unincorporated centres will be ineligible for the program.
Required municipal corporations:
a minimum of $2.50 per capita for RMs and non-industrial LGDs
a minimum of $3.50 per capita for towns, villages and industrial LGDs with populations of 1,500 or more
a minimum of $2.50 per capita for towns, villages and industrial LGDs with populations of less than 1,500
For each partnership, the two lead partners must contribute at the minimum financial level designed for their type of municipal authority. Additional partners must contribute at least 50 percent of the designed level. School divisions are not required to contribute direct funding.
The province matches funding to the less or $5.50 per capita or $5,500 for each eligible participating municipal authority.
Recreation Commissions participating under the Recreation Opportunities Program are eligible for access funding through the Training Allocation Fund. This program is designed to assist with training costs for recreation directors, community recreation leaders and volunteers. Total grants for a commission in any one fiscal year (April 1 to March 31) will not exceed the following maximums:
Rural Recreation Commission $600.00
Northern Recreation Commission $1500.00 (within the Norman Region Boundary)
