DUCKS UNLIMITED CANADA - SIOUX PASS PROJECT - R.M. OF PORTAGE LA PRAIRIE (CLIENT FILE: 4658.00)
A Proposal has been filed by Ducks Unlimited Canada for the upgrading of its Sioux Pass project, which is located between Clandeboye Bay and Lake Francis adjacent to the south end of Lake Manitoba in the Rural Municipality of Portage la Prairie. The upgrading would allow the restoration of periodic flood and drought cycles on the wetland which have been diminished since the regulation of Lake Manitoba in 1961. Increased water level fluctuation would be accomplished by constructing a permanent pumping station between the project area and Clandeboye Bay. This would allow pumping of water into the project area from Clandeboye Bay or lowering water levels within the project area by pumping to Clandeboye Bay. The operating range for water levels in the project area would remain unchanged. A small amount of dyke upgrading and channel construction is also proposed as part of the project, and a power line would be constructed to the pumping station. Construction would begin in the winter of 2001/2002 and continue until the fall of 2002.
