
This page is designed specifically for those
involved with construction/alteration or the removal
of petroleum
storage tanks.
As of December 29, 2003, only a Licensed Petroleum
Technicians (LPTs), in the Province
of Manitoba, may construct, alter,
or remove petroleum storage tank systems. To obtain a
license in either, construction / alteration, removal, precision leak testing, or
maintenance
of electronic leak detection equipment, the applicant
must:
fill out the licensed petroleum technician application form
provide sufficient documentation demonstrating
that during the previous two years,
one was active in the
construction, alteration, or removal of storage tanks systems.
complete
a course of study for petroleum technicians that is
acceptable to the
advisory committee (pertaining to construction /
alteration, and removal)
fulfill any other requirements that the advisory
committee deems necessary for
ones specific case
If denial of the application occurs, or the license
is suspended or cancelled, the director will
notify the individual in
writing. The applicant has 10 days from the issue date of the
letter to
appeal the decision.
Application for:
Before completion of work on aboveground or underground petroleum storage tanks, a Licensed Petroleum Technician must ensure that all codes and standards are met as per MR 188/2001. The current regulation adopts the Environmental Code of Practice for Aboveground (1993) and Underground (1994) Storage Tank Systems Containing Petroleum Products. A new code, entitled Environmental Code of Practice for Aboveground and Underground Storage Tank Systems Containing Petroleum and Allied Petroleum Products (2003) has become available from the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME),and will be adopted in future regulation amendments.

Upon completion of any project pertaining to construction / alteration or removal, the LPT must submit a work completion certificate to an Environment Officer in the Petroleum Storage Program (PSP).
