Manitoba Conservation delivers its scarification program via tendered contracts, which may be area or hourly-based rates, administered by Regional Operations offices throughout Manitoba.
These
contracts are advertised as required, through the Winnipeg Free
Press and occasionally in rural Manitoba newspapers. The contracts
may also be listed in the MERX on-line purchasing system.
Part of the contract process includes mandatory site viewing conferences where potential bidders visit all sites to be treated and can discuss site issues and logistics with Regional Operations staff. Information and schedules are included in the advertisements.
The advertisements include the specifications of type of equipment to be provided by the contractor. Manitoba supplies the silviculture equipment that is to be used for the contract and supervises it attachment to the contracted prime mover. A Satellite-based Global Positioning System called "Silvitracs" is also attached to the equipment to give a highly accurate record and map of the project. All transportation, fuel and supplies are the contractors responsibility.
