Manitoba Seedling Specifications
Tree Planting Stats:
|
Manitoba plants container grown seedlings as part of its forest renewal activities. The following are the specifications of the seedlings which are grown by commercial nurseries for Manitoba's use. The Container Type refers to the size or capacity of the hard-walled containers that the seedlings are grown in.
For a further explanation of the container types see: Plantation Establishment.

Each year Manitoba Conservation and the three Forest Management License Holders perform Forest Renewal activities on the areas for which they are responsible. The following table is a summary of all renewal activities preformed on an annual basis. As some site types can be successfully regenerated with no further treatment, the total amount treated does not equal the amount harvested. These untreated areas continue to be monitored and surveyed and if it is determined they will not meet renewal standards they are treated appropriately.

Trees have been planted in Manitoba since Manitoba assumed management of its forest resources from the Federal Government in 1930. Not included in the totals are the trees planted as shelterbelts throughout rural Manitoba by the Manitoba Forestry Association's Tree Train or the Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Administration. Please go to the following page\pdf for the numbers by year\decade.
