2005 Integrating Aboriginal People in Natural Resource
Management Conference
Manitoba Conservation will be hosting the 3rd Inter-Jurisdictional
Conference on Natural Resource Management on June 21 - June 24, 2005 at
the University of Manitoba Fort Garry Campus in Winnipeg. This year's theme
is "Integrating Aboriginal People in Natural Resource
Mangement."
The 2005 IAPNRM Conference committee is still accepting papers for
presentations. Presentations should be twenty minutes in length and
abstracts should be forwarded for consideration. Where possible, presentations should include an Aboriginal
representative involved in each process to present their experience and
perspective on any joint initiatives with government. Presentations should relate to the following themes:
- Aboriginal Involvement in Forest Management Planning
- Broad Area Planning
- Co-management Agreements
- Consultation Strategies, Legal Aspects and Best Practices
- Developing New Opportunities in Economic Development with
Aboriginal People
- Aboriginal Community Capacity Issues
- Metis Issues - Implementation of Powley/Blais
- Resource Allocation
- Treaty and Aboriginal Rights
- Aboriginal participation in natural resource management
- Previous Conference Updates
