The Protected Areas Initiative has designed proposed protected areas in the Saskatchewan River Delta Planning Area. These proposals are being reviewed in two phases.

Phase 1 proposed protected areas (yellow on map) include:

• Red Deer Wildlife Management Area
• Big Island Ecological Reserve
• Lake Winnipegosis Salt Flats Ecological Reserve Addition
