Interpretation Programs
1. Birds Hill
Park
interpreters conduct programs designed for all ages, throughout
the year. These events will help you discover the park's natural
and cultural history. Activities are relaxed, informative and
fun. Everyone is welcome to attend, whether you are visiting for
the day or camping for the week. Interpretive events are free of
charge.
During the summer months, pick up a program schedule at the
campground office or check the program event posters on bulletin
boards. Campfires, amphitheatre shows, children's programs and
special events are presented weekly from mid-June to early
September. Special events are also held during the winter
months.
2. Grand Beach
Summer
programs have been offered to park visitors since the early
1970s. Park interpreters lead guided tours, stage special events
and provide children's activities. They also present slide
shows, films, videos and special guests in the amphitheatre.
These are ideal opportunities for you and your family to
appreciate the park's natural and cultural resources. For
up-to-date program information, check event posters or inquire
at park offices.
3. Hecla/Grindstone
During
the summer months park interpreters conduct a full slate of
activities including outdoor evening amphitheatre programs,
guided walks in the village and marsh, traditional campfire
talks and special events.
A highlight of the program is the commercial fishing
demonstration and fish fry held twice each summer. This event
provides visitors with a unique opportunity to view and to
discuss Lake Winnipeg's commercial fishery from the initial
setting of the nets through to the filleting and tasting of some
of the day's catch.
The interpretation program is designed to connect the
audience with the park's natural and cultural resources and
thereby create better understanding of, and commitment to the
concept of sustainable development.
Interpreters will greet you at the Kenosewun interpretive
centre that celebrates the earliest known site of farming in
Manitoba. Corn was planted here by Aboriginal people around 1400
AD according to archaeological investigations on site.
Throughout summer, hands-on activities are offered in the
building and on the grounds for people of all ages. Videos are
offered at the indoor theatre.

history of the park. Whether the programs are about white-tailed
deer, water conservation or tall grass prairie, they are offered

7. St. Norbert
Throughout summer, interpreters lead guided walks in the park
with tours of the two beautifully restored houses. Commentary is
